Family Stay at Sofitel Brussels Le Louise

Almost three kilometer-long, Brussels’ Avenue Louise lined with department stores, galleries and fancy boutiques is adjacent to the posh Sofitel Brussels Le Louise Hotel where we had the privilege of staying last month.
The upscale property with 169 rooms including ten suites offers unique hospitality and a welcome reception from the beginning to the end of one’s stay.

The Area

Conveniently, the hotel is central to most of the city’s landmarks as well as Brussels’ airport and Gare Midi (railroad and Eurostar station) that is three metro stops away. Brussels has so much to offer regarding what to do; whether you are on a romantic getaway, a business trip or vacation with your family.
Regardless of whether you want to visit the Royal Palace, the Unesco World Heritage Grand Place, the Atomium or explore the trendy Sablon neighborhood with its restaurants and outdoor cafes; you will not be bored.

Especially if you are traveling with children, one can’t go to Belgium and not have chocolate. Of course, everyone has their favorite brand, and the options are endless, but one of the popular destinations is Neuhaus that has a chocolate gallery close to the hotel.
During the summer months, hotel guests can participate or watch the T-Man Roller-Bike Parade on Friday afternoons when hundreds of cyclists, skateboarders, and rollerblade enthusiasts head for the streets escorted by local law enforcement.

Hotel Décor

Entering from the street, one takes the escalators to the hotel’s lobby where the 3-dimensional textured ‘Lace look’ wall and glass jewel droplets of pale burgundy chandeliers highlight the reception area.

The eclectic mix of whimsical furniture and decorations in muted pinks, purples, browns, and silvers make guests feel like they have stepped through the looking glass into a modern version of Alice’s Wonderland. Visitors can easily picture the Cheshire cat perched on one of the overstuffed ottomans or a chaise lounge with its curlicues!

The unique and beautiful theme is carried throughout the public areas and can be seen in the meticulous selection of flooring, decorated walls, and even the ceilings.
In one of the corners of the hotel’s restaurant, there is a giant silver leatherette sofa facing smaller seats across the table. This would be the perfect spot to envision Alice having her “eat me” and “drink me” moments with light snacks, refreshments, and beverages from the bar.

As one continues down the ‘rabbit hole’ away from the lobby, there’s an outdoor courtyard terrace with sculpted plants, a globe fountain and an eclectic mix of chairs. With its shaded areas and cushy seating, it is a good place to enjoy one of the hotel’s specialty cocktails that come accompanied by specialty macarons

Our Welcome

The timing of our visit couldn’t have been better because, on Fridays, guests are welcomed to the property with a champagne drink to start the weekend, and we were no exception.
For guests who do not wish to have champagne; citrus and herb-infused water carafes filled with refreshing and delicate flavors are available in the lobby on a daily basis. My favorite was lemon with fresh cardamom.

The Room

Our room decorated in hues of browns, grays and purples with white and tan accents was the perfect blend of quirky functionality and elegance.
The king sized platform bed with the white leather headboard, and Fornasetti cushions were very comfortable to sleep in. We found both the desk area and sitting area boasting a pod seat standing convenient spots to watch TV and work on my laptop.
Closet space was ample with hanging space, separate shelves and a built-in chest of drawers. The bar area featured a Nespresso machine with diverse coffee pods, a mini fridge and a safe that could easily hold several electronic devices.

Like several other modern properties, our room had multiple outlets as well as an extra one in the safe so guests could charge expensive devices while safely stored.

The bathroom with its fun peekaboo window had more of an elegant, minimalistic feel to it with tan-colored tile flooring and a glass-enclosed shower boasting both a rain showerhead and a handheld shower attachment.
The vanity and sink area had adequate space to put personal cosmetics and medicines we pack for travel. The Hermes ‘Eau d’orange Verte’ amenity kit provided a luxurious touch along with slippers and fluffy towels and plush bathrobes.

We liked the fact that even though the shower had no moving glass door, the bathroom floor did not flood like other hotel bathrooms we’ve stayed in.

Special Touches

We were impressed with the finesse, little touches and special attention shown by the staff. A little peach-themed snack with jam and smoothie, along with an infomercial card telling us all about the fruit and how it was the favorite of Louis XIV was sent to the room upon our check-in. On the little platter there were also macarons; one pistachio and the other coffee – all extremely chic and delicious.
The next day when we left for the airport at four A.M, the front desk staff not only woke us up in a timely manner but also sent up an impromptu breakfast of a fruit salad, yogurt, macarons and a very necessary coffee.

The establishment’s elegant Crystal Lounge’ restaurant overlooking the boulevard serves breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as a scrumptious brunch on Sundays.
Apart from the outdoor terrace fitted with assorted comfortable seating, guests can relax in the hotel’s library, right off the lobby area, read a magazine or use the hotel’s free Wi-Fi to go online.

  • TMOM-Travel-DisclosureCall in advance to ask for a feather-free room if you need one. This hotel unlike some we have stayed totally understands disabilities and how to make patrons welcome.
  • If your kid is noise sensitive, you might want to request a room facing the back of the hotel. Away from the street, patio area and bar.
  • There are double curtains that block out the light that is great if your child has sensitivities to that.
  • The hotel can supply a rollaway bed upon request.
  • There is an adjustable air-conditioning system in the room, so if your child has sensitivity to heat, they won’t have a problem.
  • There is a handheld shower attachment that makes it easy for parents to help their child to shower.
